” It’s time” to set your Intentions and Adventures
“It’s Time”: Set Your Intentions and Adventures
Gough Whitlam once declared, “It’s time,” sparking hope and bringing change during his campaign in the 1970s. Those two simple words propelled him to victory—it’s remarkable how a phrase can fuel ambition and drive real results in both business and life. Words matter. With the right words, you don’t just inspire others; sometimes, you make success possible for yourself.
The Power of Words in Shaping Your Path
“Only you can control your future,” as Dr. Seuss reminds us. Imagine having one or two words that could transform the direction of your life. Which words would you choose? While you could pick a negative one, for maximum impact, focus on something positive—something that truly serves you.
Take a moment to notice which words resonate with you, how they arise naturally, and what feelings they evoke. For me, the word is Adventure. Whenever I choose adventure, the best outcomes follow. That single word reminds me that anything is possible. Adventures unlock new opportunities, break through limiting beliefs, and reveal what you’re truly capable of.
Setting Intentions: Focus on Solutions, Not Problems
Rather than dwelling on challenges, set your intentions on the solution and what excites you most. “What if, instead of focusing on the problem, we focused our intention on what we love?” Just imagine the adventures that could emerge from such a shift in mindset.
This is a great time—whether it’s for your business or personal life—to reflect on what you want to experience in the coming year, what motivates you, and what makes your heart race. It’s about setting goals, but in a way that feels energizing and fun.
Addressing the “How”: Responsibility and Ownership
You might wonder, “How do I actually do this if I’ve tried before and didn’t succeed?” If things aren’t working, ask yourself who’s responsible for your outcomes. The answer is you.
From my experience, my happiest moments have come when I set an intention for adventure with a clear desired outcome—and then allowed the details to unfold naturally. I regularly check in to make sure my adventures align with my core values. This approach helps me connect deeply with my own purpose.
Turning Goals Into Intentions and Adventures
Let’s reframe “goal setting” as Setting Your Intentions for Adventures. It’s more fun and engaging that way—a far cry from the usual chore.
Here’s how to start:
-
Write down what you want to experience in the coming year. Forget last year’s ups and downs; focus on new adventures. List them with the prefix, “I am…” to make each intention feel immediate and real.
-
Clarify your why for each intention. Why does each goal excite you?
-
Assess if it’s realistic. For example, if your goal is “I want to make $1million,” make sure you have a clear business plan to achieve that, not just wishful thinking.
-
Add a time frame. Without a deadline, intentions tend to drift. For instance, instead of saying “I earn enough money,” be precise: “It’s now May 2015 and I earn $10,000 a month.”
-
Visualize the experience. Use all your senses. Picture yourself living that intention—see it, feel it, and hear it.
-
Review your intentions monthly, just like updating a business plan. Make adjustments and fine-tune as you grow. Stay true to your heart, not just your head.
Make Life—and Business—an Adventure
Life is an adventure. Pursue the things that set your soul on fire and make it fun. Start by asking, “What do I want to experience this year?”
Remember, setting intentions is powerful. As Dr. Seuss said, “Only you can control your future.” Choose your words—and adventures—wisely.
These steps are simply placing an intention. Remember “only you can control your future”. Dr Seuss.
