Create New Healthy Habits

You’ve heard it before, and it’s true – the less processed food you eat, the more nutritional value you gain. However, the golden rule is this: when you start a new habit, you must replace the old one with a new one to be most effective. As Maya Angelou once said, “If you don’t like something, change it. If you can’t change it, change your attitude.”

Here are some transformative habits to get you started on your journey to vibrant health:

1. Minimize Packaged Foods

Look for food that doesn’t come in a packet. Shop from your local butcher and support farmers’ markets. “Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food” – Hippocrates knew the power of whole, natural foods.

2. Fresh Juice Wisdom

When drinking juice, remember that it only stays nutritionally alive for about 20 minutes after juicing – after that, it becomes “dead food.” When juicing, ensure you have a quality juicer that doesn’t heat the fruits and vegetables too much, as excessive heat destroys vital nutrients. Invest in a good one! Remember, juice in cans or bottles is filled with sugar, so stay away from them as much as possible.

3. Mind Your Thoughts

Be aware of your thoughts. If they’re negative, try to reframe them with compassion and love as your foundation. Easier said than done, I know! As Wayne Dyer wisely said, “When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.”

4. Eat Mindfully

Eat slowly and never eat when you’re upset, angry, or anxious. Your emotional state affects digestion and nutrient absorption.

5. Grow Your Own

Cultivate herbs and vegetables yourself – you’ll be amazed how much you save and how much you learn by doing so. There’s something magical about nurturing life from seed to harvest.

6. Embrace Loose Leaf Tea

Replace tea bags with loose leaf tea in a proper pot. It’s a lovely ritual to create and a beautiful way to treat yourself during the day. Tea is medicine in the sense that it’s a wonderful way to support your immune system and health. Many tea bags contain fillers and are bleached, which aren’t beneficial to ingest.

7. Move with Joy

Find movement that you genuinely enjoy. If you want community, try yoga or martial arts classes. Choose individual sports if that suits you better – just make sure it’s something you love, not what everyone else is doing. “Take care of your body. It’s the only place you have to live” – Jim Rohn.

8. Live Passionately

Laugh often and be passionate about every aspect of your life – or change what doesn’t serve you! Life is too precious to spend it half-heartedly.

9. Coffee Consciousness

If you’re going to drink coffee, grind the beans yourself and eliminate instant coffee from your routine. The difference in taste and nutritional value is remarkable.

10. Choose Real Fats

Never eat margarine. Better options include avocado (when in season), tahini spread, or good old-fashioned butter. If ants and bugs won’t touch it, then it’s likely not good for you either – nature always tells the truth.

11. Quality Chocolate

If you’re going to indulge in chocolate, choose the finest quality available. Spend that extra money on the darkest, organic chocolate with 80% cacao and minimal sugar content you can find. You’ll discover that you only need a tiny amount to satisfy you. My chocolate lasts for months because I buy the best, pay good money for it, and savor just one square occasionally.

12. Practice Gratitude

Be grateful for the little things every day. “Gratitude turns what we have into enough” – Anonymous.
