Have you ever been dumped by a wave scraped along he bottom of the oceans sand and come out with your bathers around our ears and gasping for breath? I have, and only a few times because I learnt how to avoid it by diving under the wave and avoiding the turbulence. The “truth wave” is that moment when reality hits you like a rogue swell. Maybe it’s a breakup, a failed launch, a business pivot gone sideways, or realising your kombucha side hustle isn’t going to make you a millionaire (yet). It’s raw, real, and often humbling.

Instead of “I failed,” try “I learned.” Instead of “I got dumped,” try “I got redirected.” Reframing is like adjusting your stance on the board—it keeps you balanced.

4. Anchor Your Strength

Use NLP anchoring to recall a time you felt powerful (feel the feelings of being powerful in a remembered state). Maybe it was nailing a pitch, hiking a volcano, learning to fly a plane or learning to surf the wave or finally mastering the a language . Tap into that feeling when the next wave rolls in.

5. Dive Under the Turbulence

When you see the next truth wave coming, don’t freeze. Dive under. Breathe. Trust your instincts. You’ve been here before, and now you know how to ride it out.
